E-Cargo Bike Deliveries
The E-Cargo Bike Delivery & Demonstration project has been designed to explore the possibilities for the use of e-cargo bikes on the Isle of Wight; making deliveries within a defined area of the Island.
In support of the delivery part of the project, there will be a series of demonstration sessions held across the Island during 2022 aimed at allowing local businesses and organisations to try out e-cargo bikes and find out more about them.
This project is being delivered by our project partner People Powered CIC, a community interest company based in Cowes that specialises in active and sustainable travel consultancy and project delivery services on the Isle of Wight.
The three month delivery pilot project offers free delivery for businesses in the Cowes and Newport area in March, April and May. The pilot project aims to showcase the capabilities of electric cargo bikes to meet some of the delivery needs of local businesses and organisations whilst testing demand for a permanent electric cargo delivery service following the pilot.
E-cargo bike deliveries offer wide benefits: replacing diesel or petrol powered journeys with e-cargo bike deliveries helps creates quieter, safer streets as well as improving air quality, reducing CO2 emissions, and cutting down on traffic congestion.
In recent years, there has been substantial growth in the use of e-cargo bike and trikes in the delivery sector across the UK. The UK Cycle Logistics Federation estimates that there are now over 100 such services in operation, covering both urban and rural locations.
