Our Story

Homestead Solar Farm

Wight Community Energy (WCE) is a community benefit society set up in 2015 to deliver community-owned renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy supply projects. We  heart of developing a sustainable, low carbon, economically prosperous Isle of Wight. WCE manages a 3.95MW solar PV farm called Homestead Farm in Shalfleet on the Isle of Wight, selling solar energy as a feed-in tariff to the National Grid. We are a community owned organisation, which means that investor members control the organisation on a one member-one vote basis and receive a percentage interest each year from the profits made from selling the solar power.

More details about Homestead

WCE also has a community fund, established to support local projects that support carbon reduction, energy efficiency and reduce fuel poverty. With recent funding from Power to Change and the Rural Community Energy Fund, WCE is undertaking a number of pioneering projects on the Isle of Wight to deliver community-owned renewable energy and improve energy efficiency with the overarching aim of reducing fuel poverty on the Island. WCE is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority in England and Wales under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965 (No RS007234).
